Refreshing the recital

Many of our themed programmes can be easily expanded into a series, or broken down into user-friendly segments. For example, we could present two or three full-length recitals over a season, exploring in depth particular aspects of the songs. Within a festival setting we could perform several short concerts over a few days, developing one theme over the mini-series or emphasising variety by creating very different song “taster” sessions.

Presenting a programme with more than one singer can intensify the drama and strengthen the overall impact – for example creating a conversational narrative with no breaks between song groups, the different voices following parallel journeys, offering contrasting views, or taking on separate personas. We can also easily mix sung and spoken word by discussing the songs, elaborating on the themes, or using supporting readings.
